چکیده
A cross-sectional study of 1,069 Thai males over 40 years of age was carried out to assess risk behaviors towards hepatitis B and C. All studied participants who voluntarily participated and signed informed consents were interviewed. One hundred eighty-seven volunteers participated in blood screening for hepatitis B virus (HBV) sero-markers and anti-hepatitis C virus (anti-HCV). The results reveal of 1,069 subjects, 21.3% had tattoos, 18.4% had a history of regular alcohol consumption (drinking alcohol ≥5 days/week), and 16.4% had a history of extramarital sex without using condoms during the previous year. Results from blood screening showed 93.1% were positive for HBV sero-markers, 4.3% had a positive HBsAg, 58.8% had a positive anti-HBs, and 0.5% had a positive anti-HCV antibody. Nine subjects were positive for HBsAg or anti-HCV, most (7/9) had at least one risk behavior.

Significance of Hepatitis B Core Antibody as the Only Marker of Hepatitis B Virus Infection in High Risk Patients
Background and Objective: Presence of hepatitis B core antibody (anti-HBc) in the absence of hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) and hepatitis B surface antibody (anti-HBs) is defined, as isolated anti-HBc. little is known about the clinical significance of the isolated anti-HBc in hepatitis B virus (HBV) infections. The aim of this study was to assess the significance of anti-HBc as the onl...

Background: The risk of infection by transfusion-transmitted viruses has been reduced remarkably. However, a zero-risk blood supply is still desirable. The screening for antibody to HBc (anti-HBc) has been shown as an alternative test for the detection of HBV infection. Objective: The main aim of this study was to evaluate HBV infection markers and the potential value of anti-HBc testing of blo...
متن کاملSerological pattern of anti-HBc alone infers occult hepatitis B virus infection in high-risk individuals in Iran.
INTRODUCTION Anti-hepatitis B core antibody (Anti-HBc) alone is defined as the presence of anti-HBc in the absence of HBsAg and anti-HBs. The significance of this serological pattern as a predicting factor for occult hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection remains largely unknown. This study aimed to assess the significance of anti-HBc alone in predicting occult HBV infection in high-risk and low-ris...

Introduction: In recent years with introduction of better screening tests, the risk of infection with transfusion-transmitted viruses has been reduced remarkably, although obtaining a zero-risk blood supply still remains international blood transfusion services goal. The routine test for detection of HBV infected blood samples is examination of HBsAg with ELISA method but in occult HBV infectio...
